This charming scene is taken from the famous Aesop Fable about the Crow and the Fox. It is entirely hand carved from solid Linden wood. When the clock strikes the hour or half-hour the door opens, a cuckoo appears and calls along with the clock’s gong strike.
A Fox once saw a Crow fly off with a grape in its beak and settle on a branch of a tree. “That’s for me, as I am a Fox,” said Master Reynard, and he walked up to the foot of the tree. “Good-day, Mistress Crow,” he cried. “How well you are looking to-day: how glossy your feathers; how bright your eye. I feel sure your voice must surpass that of other birds, just as your figure does; let me hear but one song from you that I may greet you as the Queen of Birds.”
The Crow lifted up her head and began to caw her best, but the moment she opened her mouth the grape fell to the ground, only to be snapped up by Master Fox. “That will do,” said he. “That was all I wanted. In exchange for your grape I will give you a piece of advice for the future:
“Do not trust flatterers.”
This is a charming carved clock, made in Germany, depicting the famous scene from Aesop’s fable. The clock features a large dial and broad carving. The mechanical brass movement is driven by two weights and time escapes with the tick of a traditional pendulum. The cuckoo call sound is made by two wooden whistles with bellows inside the clock case.
Even the packaging has old-world charm, as only paper is used. The factory packing is all made with recycled materials. This clock makes a great gift for the young and old alike. The Crow and Fox design is also available with music, see model 1336.
