The Mother in Law clock or Angry Woman cuckoo clock is made by Anton Schneider in Schonach, Germany. This is a colorful cuckoo clock with bright red shutter doors and hand painted figures. A lone, hand carved tree stands on the right just behind the beer drinkers. The Mother in Law is sneaking up behind the two animated beer drinkers and is about to clobber one of the beer drinkers as the dog watches.
The clock is powered by a German Regula movement which must be wound daily. Three cast iron pine cones apply gravity to the tarnish resistant chains which drive the movement, time and cuckoo call. A Swiss music box plays 2, 22 note melodies as the dancers dance after the call of cuckoo. The mother in law waves her rolling pin as the music plays and the dancers dance, water wheel turns and beer drinkers drink. There is lots of movement while the music is playing.
The dial, numerals, hands and cuckoo bird are all made of wood. There is a night shut off switch for quiet time and night use. The roof is made of hand spliced, individually laid wooden shingles. The cuckoo sound is made by two bellows which are mounted on top of whistles and actuated by wires at the proper time.
